BRIDGEVIEW, IL--The Chicago Red Stars will pick 6th in Monday’s WPS General Draft. The draft order was determined by the strength of the allocations made by the league on September 16. The Red Stars were allocated Lindsay Tarpley, Carli Lloyd, and Kate Markgraf on that day. The Red Stars will also get picks #9, #20, and #23 in the draft. Washington Freedom got the #1 pick for the draft followed by Bay Area.
Also on Friday, the Red Stars acquired the WPS playing rights to Spanish international Laura Del Rio. Del Rio scored 13 goals and 11 assists for FC Indiana Lionesses in the 2008 W-League en route to the Championship game. FC Indiana is also a W-League affiliate of the Red Stars. The pick is officially the second international discovery pick after picking England’s Alex Scott last week. Scott has played for Arsenal Ladies since 2005 where Red Stars coach Emma Hayes was first-team coach.
