New Jersey Ironmen 10-9 Chicago Storm
by Dan Gaichas
NEWARK, NJ--Despite a hat trick by Carlos “Chile” Farias, it was New Jersey who would eek out a win, 10-9, at the Prudential Center on Tony Meola’s 19 saves. The loss means that the Storm slip to fifth because of the tiebreaker with Monterrey and are just a half game ahead of New Jersey in the standings with the Ironmen having a match in hand to be played Sunday in Milwaukee.
New Jersey jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first three minutes on goals by Geison Moura and former Storm player Lazo Alavanja. Then, Farias scored his first goal in more than two months with a three-pointer with 30 seconds remaining in the half to make it 4-3.
Farias gave the Storm the lead 40 seconds into the third quarter, but Nebosja Stamenkovic scored to reclaim the lead for the hosts. “Chile” then completed his hat trick almost two minutes later to make it 7-6 Storm.
The lead would seesaw twice more ultimately landing in favor of New Jersey as Tiguinho scored the only goal of the fourth quarter for the eventual match-winner.
The Storm’s next match is next Saturday at home against the Baltimore Blast at the Sears Centre. Kickoff is at 7pm.
